How to type Myanmar Language

It will be a long way to come native Myanmar script support on any operating system. If you type b in old ASCII font, it will come up with ဘ depending on the font keyboard mapping. See here for typical Myanmar keyboard mapping. Nowadays Unicode font is preferred and you will see most Unicode font on the web since it can display virtually all langauges in one font. For Unicode font, some kind of Input Method Editor (IME) by the OS is necessary. There is no IME for Myanmar script.

Many custom Myanmar script input editor exists, but the following two are recommended and free.

1. Burglish (project)
   
2. Waitzar (project)

Since they are not IME supported by OS, there are some quirks. One is it received keyboard event even if the active focus control is not receiving text input. Fortunately it can be easily disabled by provided pop menu as necessary.

You might be interested in current BurmeseClassic.com issue. Nothing new, but kind of usual thing happing in the web: distributing copyrighted materials without publishers consent. Obviously there is no way to protect illegal materials legally. When something happen like this, the service was shutdown and BurmeseClassic.com is trying to resolve in dirty way.

MMgeeks has already point several security holes about BurmeseClassic.com. The main problem is BurmeseClassic.com does not implement a simple prevention like hot link protection. It has been an excellent case study for newly founded Cyber Security Group. Without spending much time, one member successfully watch a video from the acclaimed shutdown service. The objective of Cyber Security Group is, like YGN Ethical Hacker Group, to help protect Myanmar IT Security. Both of these security teams offer free (as well as fee base) security service. Probably it is the first step for any security issue in Myanmar sites.

Clonemap has a nice facility of displaying the plasmid graphics with the sequence along in an upper panel on the same screen. it will also highlight any sequence regions you have 'blocked'/ticks/arrowheaded as you click on these. It accepts EMBL, plain, FASTA, GCG format. It will also augment sequence information with the feature table in the header of a sequence file. It uses its own enzyme table but can be edited. Sequence can be translated in all six frames However it will **not** permit sequence editing, just insert/deleting. It will accept most sequence file format and produces nice colours graphics in .wmf or .bmp format. Can use your own sequences in the DEMO, but can not export graphics. No obvious time limit on demo.

Winplas Review

Winplas also has fully clickable graphics, in nice colours. It has a sequence editor, and will accept all sequence formats. Winplas did not have a sequence display panel and although both were easy to use with good help, I think I preferred Clonemap. Both of these demos will accept your own sequences, but CloneMap allow clipboard functions. It accepts GenBank EMBL GCG Fasta ASCII/Raw and other sequence formats.

Web or non-web version. The web linked version is linked to NCBI, EBI(SRS) etc and you can add your own links, so that sequence can be retrieved online and directly imported into Plasmid1.0. It also accepts fasta, embl , raw but not GCG format sequence files. It has no sequence editor. Will only export .emf graphics formats. Although I thought the web function is very nice, functionally it looked pale when compared to Clonemap or Winplas.

How to uninstall Zawgyi Font

How to uninstall Zawgyi Font

Basically you will not need to uninstall the Zawgyi Font. Installing new version of Zawgyi will replace existing one. However if you have installed Zawgyi Font bundled with other software, you may want to uninstall it. The uninstaller should be get from the original installer source. We advice NOT to install such bundled software just to get the font. One reason being changing the setting will not be general and may not work properly in your computer as installer is trying to do.

To display Myanmar font in gtalk, it can easily be done by changing font setting in gtalk setting. To change font in gtalk, get latest gtalk software and click settings on the top left of the gtalk main windows. Use "Change Font..." button on general panel of the setting dialog box.

Rebtel is giving free call to Myanmar to help contact (and obviously promote their service) until 2008 May 22. Each user is entitled up to 2 hours free call time. I registered and tried out. The registration does not require credit card, but do require a handphone (landline should also work). Basically Rebtel will give you local number for your contact. So mobile phone charge will incur. Before you make a call, check that number. Your phone service provider may charge premium fee for some number. By no means, I am responsible for your lost if it has.

I tried fews calls to Monywa and seems working but haven't get talk because Myanmar side do not pick up my phone call. So far I got to three wrong number from six tries.

In normal rate, Rebtel charge 30.61 yen (0.30 USD) per minute for Myanmar phone call. So slightly less competitive price considering extra changes from your mobile carrier. As always with voip service, new user get free call upon registration (Rebtel gives 10 minutes free).

To resolve this wrong number issue, i contacted to Rebtel. The Rebtel web site do not give a customer service number. Of course there is email and web form customer service, but too slow to my taste. So i find out company phone +46851906100 and got a call. I finally reached to their technical service staff, Mr Nicolus. I had responsible reply with him. So far i just made wrong number issue.

I ask several friends around the world and several people report it works and the voice quality is fine. (See MZ, NM forums)

Considering it is difficult to call to Monywa even using premium IDD call, the difficulity may be due to Myanmar side. Anyways 2 hours free call is worth to try. Please see how to use Rebtel for detail instruction.

Fair-use policy allows you 2 hours of free calling to China and in view of the present situation we have extended it until May 28:th. We are happy so many are calling to Myanmar but our current capacity to Myanmar cannot hold more calls, so a lot of people cannot get through. We therefore have to temporarily limit the free minutes to 10 minutes when you phone. We hope to be able to increase our capacity again before the extended free calling ends on the 28:th of May.

Bioclipse

Bioclipse Project

The Bioclipse project is aimed at creating a Java-based, open source, visual platform for chemo- and bioinformatics based on the Eclipse Rich Client Platform (RCP). Bioclipse, as any RCP application, is based on a plugin architecture that inherits basic functionality and visual interfaces from Eclipse, such as help system, software updates, preferences, cross-platform deployment etc.

Bioclipse will provide functionality for chemo- and bioinformatics, and extension points that easily can be extended by plugins to provide added functionality. The first version of Bioclipse includes a CDK-plugin (bc_cdk) to provide a chemoinformatic backend, a Jmol-plugin (bc_jmol) for 3D-visualization and a general logging plugin. To stay updated on upcoming features, releases, new plugins etc, please register for the mailing list bioclipse-announce. The development is best followed on the Bioclipse Wiki where we document the progress and ideas of the development on a daily basis.

Bioclipse is develped as a collaboration between the Proteochemometric Group , Dept. of Pharmaceutical Biosciences, Uppsala University, Sweden, and the Research Group for Molecular Informatics at Cologne University Bioinformatics Center (CUBIC).

pDRAW32 Review

Created and under current development by Kjeld Olesen of Acaclone Software. pDRAW 32 accepts most file format including GCG, EMBL, fasta etc. It uses enzyme.dat, hence can be easily replaced with a updated copy (from GCG). Sequences can also be easily cut & paste into a new or existing file. In addition it will allow edits to sequence files. However the graphics are not touch sensitive and although it can produce coloured plots (and prints), this only applies to the restriction sites and annotation boxes can only be produced in black and white. The help pages are very poor, but it contains very nice science help with PCR and cloning protocols and a lovely coloured periodic table. It is worth downloading, for its oligo calculator, ORF and mapping facility. Since my review, newer revisions of pDRAW32 have improves circular plotting of plasmids, specifically the positioning of restriction sites when many sites are selected. Since revision 1.0.35 pDRAW32 can track changes to the DNA sequence during sequence editing and move to positions of any annotations accordingly. The current revision has improved plotting quality and can analyse for and plot (or list) oligonucleotide priming sites.

၂။ Unicode Font တစ္ခုတည္းတြင္ computer ျဖင့္ေရးလို႕ ရေသာ ဘာသာစကား အားလုံးကို အကန္႕လိုက္ ပါဝင္ႏိႈင္ပါတယ္။ Unicode 5.1 တြင္ ျမန္မာဘာသာအတြက္ တိုင္းရင္းသားဘာသာစကား အပါအဝင္ U+1000 မွ U+109F ထိ ၁၅၆ လုံးပါဝင္ပါတယ္။ ထို႕ေၾကာင့္ system ႏွင့္ application မ်ားသည္ annotate မွလုပ္ရဘဲ language ကို အလိုေလွ်ာက္သိရွိျပီး search engine မ်ားက localize လုပ္သြားျမည္ျဖစ္ပါသည္။

၄။ Unicode Format data သည္ data က်စ္လစ္သည္။ ဥပမာ ေအာက္ကာျမင့္ ကို U+1037 တစ္လုံး ျဖင့္ သက္မွတ္ထားပါတယ္။ Non-Unicode Font တစ္ခုျဖစ္တဲ့ Wininnwa မွာ ေအာက္ကာျမင့္ သုံးေလးခုရွိပါတယ္။ Unicode Font တြင္ အလုံးဆင့္ မရွိပါ။ အထူးရွယ္ အပဲ့အရြဲ႕ အသတ္အေညႇာက္ မ်ားမရွိပါ (၅)။​​​ ထို႕အတြက္ အျမင္ အဆင္ေျပေအာင္ ေနရာအထားအသို ညႇီ​ေပးေသာ algorithm မ်ား Unicode Format Font တြင္ ပါရွိပါတယ္။

၅။ ျမန္မာစာ Line breaking ျပႆနာ ဟာအမ်ားသိျဖစ္ပါတယ္။ ဥပမာ တေဝးထိုး အေပၚ line မွာ က်န္ေနတာမ်ိဳး။​ ထို႕အတြက္ U+200B ကို Word break marker အျဖစ္ အသုံးျပဳရန္ Unicode standard မွ ​ဆိုထား ပါသည္။ သို႕ေသာ္လည္း web page အတြက္မူ line break ႏွင့္ indexing ေကာင္းရန္ U+200B ကို syllable break marker အသုံးျပဳျခင္းက ပို၍သင့္ေတာ္ပါျမည္ (၄)။

Going wrong with Myanmar Blogger Society

Being interested in social web site, I go around several Myanmar social network site. Nyi Lynn Seck is one of my favorite blogger due to his excellent write-up and original information. I sometime cited his blog posts. Recently he created a NING network called Myanmar Blogger Society.

This is very typical Myanmar society and quite a number of them live in Myanmar. Most of blogger are so-called pro-democracy. Interestingly they don't understand what it is nor practice in the society. There are so much of for-show and let-us-follow-somebody on Myanmar Blogger Society. Unity does not mean one.

I joined Myanmar Blogger Society with my wrong accusation that Google Ad should be removed from the main page. After realizing that it is not free as point out by three members, I apologized my wrong accusation. Only recently I knew that our network creator pay $42.8/month for this NING web service.

Myanmar Blogger Society has trouble in setting rule regarding creating a group. Basically the conflict come from opposing new group by the existing group. Here I even encourage nearly identical group. The only things is admin may request for proper group name. But the group creator can ignore the suggestion.

One member is also proposing a member must have a blog. The society like the idea and network creator defines that a blogger must have over 30 blog posts. Basically this concept come out of proud that "I am a blogger, you are not". In fact, creating a blog is one click in blogspot and wordpress. Why not they teach a new comer to create a new blog. The society should be for the people who interested in blogging, not what they are made of.

My first discuss there was a proposal for deleting Male Blogger group. It is the largest mamber group created by the network creator. There is no discussion in the group and I also don't see any topic for the group just to say we are male to insult female bloggers. My discussion topic was deleted soon after posted without discussion.

Recently Okisan was banned from Myanmar Blogger Society. Mark explained the reason as follow:

က်ေနာ္ Okisan ကို ban လိုက္ပါတယ္။ ဒီကစည္းမ်ဥ္းေတြကို မလိုက္နာတာေၾကာင့္ရယ္။ ဖြလြန္းတာေၾကာင့္ရယ္ပါ။ ေနာက္ဆံုး က်ေနာ္ေတြ႕လိုက္ရတာကေတာ့ သူအေၾကာင္ရိုက္ျပီးဝယ္ထားတဲ့ zawgyi.org ဆိုတာကို "zawgyi.org domain name on auction" ဆိုတဲ့နာမည္ႏွင့္ ေဒၚလာတစ္ေထာင္ျဖင့္ ေရာင္းရန္ဆိုျပီး myanmaritpros မွာ လုပ္ထားတာကို လာေၾကာ္ျငာထားတာပါ။ က်ေနာ္ အကုန္ဖ်က္ပစ္လိုက္ပါျပီ။ ေနာက္ျပီး က်ေနာ္သူ႕ကိုအင္ဗိုက္လုပ္ထားတာပါ။ ဒါေၾကာင့္က်ေနာ္ သူ႕ကို ဘန္းမယ္ေျပာထားတာၾကာပါျပီ။ အျခားသူေတြကို အဲလို လြယ္လြယ္ကူကူဘန္းမွာ မဟုတ္ပါဘူး။ သူ႕အေၾကာင္းသိေတြမို႕လို႕ MBS မွာ အားလံုးအတြက္ အေႏွာက္အယွက္မျဖစ္ေစရန္အတြက္ ျဖစ္ပါတယ္။ နားလည္ေပးမယ္လို႕ထင္ပါတယ္။

To me, my usual marketing blog post "zawgyi.org domain name on auction" (exactly there), is fine. At least it is relevant to the blogger who use Zawgyi font. I was really not convinced the reason for banning due to my blog post. Finally Okisan joined outsider community, Myanmar Society created by Steve (London).

Since Myanmar Blogger Society is working in Burmese ways, it will success but go wrong. If we generalize Myanmar society, democracy is a far away for those people.
